There’s a version of a wedding reception that everyone expects: a sit-down dinner, a bridal waltz, a run sheet timed to the minute. It’s lovely if that’s genuinely what you want. But it’s not the only way to celebrate a marriage, and it was never meant to be a formula everyone has to follow. High tea gives you something different, a reception that feels like an afternoon spent properly with the people who matter, not a production to get through. Relaxed doesn’t mean smaller. It just means the day feels like yours.
What Is a High Tea Wedding?
A high tea wedding is exactly what it sounds like: your wedding reception, but built around a beautifully catered high tea instead of a formal sit-down dinner. Guests are seated at long or round tables set with vintage crockery, tiered stands of sandwiches, scones and sweets, and a proper pour of tea, with something stronger on hand too, since it’s still a wedding. It can be the whole reception, or one part of a longer day, a way to slow things down and let everyone actually sit and talk before the dancing starts.

High tea suits more wedding shapes than people expect. For an elopement or a genuinely small guest list, it can be the entire celebration, warm, unhurried, and exactly the right size without feeling like it’s missing something bigger. For a larger wedding, it works just as well as one part of the day, an afternoon segment before the formalities, or the reception itself before a smaller evening gathering for close family.
Either way, the guest experience stays the same: seated, comfortable, actually able to talk to the people at their table. Styling doesn’t need to be elaborate to feel considered. A few well-chosen pieces, the right crockery, flowers that suit the setting, do more than an overdone theme ever could. Whatever size your day is, the table is what makes it feel like a wedding.

That’s exactly why nothing about the catering or the table is left to guesswork. Delivery times are planned around your ceremony, not the other way around. The crockery is checked, the food is ready when it needs to be, and every detail that could go wrong on an ordinary day simply doesn’t get the chance to on yours. You focus on the vows. We’ll make sure the table’s ready the moment you turn around.

High tea works beautifully as a standalone afternoon reception.
Not at all. We cater high tea weddings from intimate elopements through to larger celebrations. The format scales, it’s really about the mood you want, not the guest count.
It covers catering, crockery, flowers, signage and setup, pretty much everything related to your tables, but not photography, celebrant fees, etc. See the full inclusions list above for exactly what’s covered.
The Wonderland Wedding Package requires a minimum of 50 guests. If your wedding is smaller than that, our Small Group Packages or regular full service catering packages might suit better, get in touch and we’ll help you find the right fit.
Our high tea menu includes tea cake as part of the spread if you select one of these options, but not wedding cake. This will need to be supplied by the couple. We can recommend some bakers if necessary.
Our wedding package includes beautiful flower bud flowers scattered per table. We don’t allow exact selections of florals but if you have a colour scheme for us to work to we can certainly do so.
If you have your own florist and have something grander in mind for the floral element of your wedding reception let us know and we can work with you to remove the floral element of the package.
Please note that we do not supply bouquets, button holes, cake florals or floral venue styling.
To keep costs as low as possible, wait staff are not included in the package but may be added. The fee is $200 per waiter and $60 thereafter. Two waiters are recommended for 50 pax.
